To assist collectors with their card grading submissions, PSA has produced a series of “Submissions 101” videos. In this episode, entitled “Packaging Guidelines,” PSA V.P. Steve Sloan and Customer Service rep Carlos De La Torre share some handy packaging tips when submitting your cards through the mail to PSA. Follow these easy steps to ensure your cards arrive in the condition they were when you packed them.
STEP 1: Do not use either screw-down holders or top loaders when sending in your cards. The former requires too much time for dismantling, while the latter allows for too much wiggle room in which the card corners could be damaged in transit. Instead, please slip your cards inside a penny sleeve first before sliding them into either a Card Saver 1 or 2 for safekeeping.
STEP 2: Put them in the same order as they appear on your submission form. Label each card clearly on the outside of the card holder and put them in the same order as they appear on your submission form. On the label, please write down your submission number and the line item as it appears on your submission form.
STEP 3: Proper packaging is key. Take your cards and stack them in the same order as they appear on the submission form and place them inside two slightly larger pieces of cardboard. Wrap a rubber band around the cardboard pieces so everything is snug and tight. Next, place bubble wrap around the cardboard pieces and tape everything closed.
STEP 4: Take the bubble-wrapped cards and place them inside an appropriately sized box for mailing. To avoid movement within the box during transit, stuff additional paper and/or popcorn pieces inside for protection. Next, use high security packaging tape on all corners, edges and seams and indicate your submission time on the outside of the box (i.e., “10-day Submission”). That will help expedite the receiving and processing of your order.
STEP 5: Ship your items to the appropriate PSA address after selecting your level of service (USPS, FedEx Express or FedEx Ground). Check the status of your shipment by plugging your tracking number into the PSA Package Tracker (login required). You can also call PSA Customer Service for assistance at 1-800-325-1121.
